About me

I'm Zsóka Máthé, leather decorator, leather worker.

At the end of the 80's the career choice was clear, because "a child needs a profession", so there was no question that I would choose the craft. My mother was a seamstress, a great tailor, and I was no stranger to the atmosphere of the workshop, the sewing table, the hum of the machines. I was driven by curiosity, and after a few years as a craftsman in the folk leather industry, I finally felt that my professional qualifications were complete... but that's when it really began. As a young man, I was offered the opportunity to teach folk leatherwork in a school - it motivated me to get a teaching degree. With my first child graduating, family and life in a small village changed my perspective. I chose independence. It was at this time that the basis of my portfolio was born, in which naturalness and harmony played an important role. A few years later, I was back teaching in a school, although my enthusiasm remained, but I was able to devote less time to my own work.

Like everything around me, the profession evolves and changes... and it's exciting. It's constant learning and development. It's what keeps me moving forward. I look for classic forms that give me a good base to play with materials and colours. I like to use materials for different purposes when the properties of the material become more important to achieve the function.

By writing this professional blog, I would like to share the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years with those interested in the profession, and of course give the layman a little insight into the intricacies of the craft. From design to construction, it's a long journey, which we go through with enthusiasm, perseverance and, of course, professional humility, until the end of the process, when the customer can hold the finished product in his hands.
