How To Clean
Cleaning leather goods is not only important for aesthetics, but can also prolong their life. They require constant care. Finished leather has some of the same properties as living leather: it breathes, it is elastic, it deforms under physical stress, it becomes dirty, it dries out and absorbs moisture. Therefore, it is essential that all leather goods are cleaned and cared for regularly and stored in a dry, well-ventilated place, free from moisture and direct sunlight.
Do not:
- Washing with plenty of water, soaking, putting in the washing machine, because it gets soaked with moisture and hardens after drying.
- Scrubbing or rubbing with a coarse bristle brush (nail brush) will damage the surface of the leather and may cause scratches.
- Cleaning with strong or chlorine-based chemicals will destroy the tensile strength and fade the colour.
- Extreme heat: drying on a hot day, on a radiator, or with a hair dryer will dry out the leather, causing it to crack and become rough to the touch.
- Do not store below freezing: do not store in a garage or damp, humid place in winter, as the leather will absorb moisture and become moldy.
When cleaning leather goods, the first and most important thing is to always test on a small, inconspicuous area, wait until it dries, and only continue the process if successful. When removing dirt, all operations should be carried out quickly so that moisture does not absorb into the leather.
Cleaning:
- Moisten a soft cloth with mild soapy water, wipe the skin, then wipe dry.
- Allow to dry at room temperature.
- Apply a skin care cream containing beeswax.
Products containing beeswax gently nourish the leather, making it more resistant and softer as a result of the treatment.
Once dry, wipe the leather again with a clean, soft cloth to restore its shine and protect it from water and dust.
For more serious contamination and if more thorough cleaning is required, contact a professional.
